Warman, SK – Fourteen year old Bodhi Edie had a “character building” weekend at Mosport during the July 10th and 11th doubleheader round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. He went into the weekend in third place in the points battle, and was looking to challenge Jeremie Hade-Precourt for his second place position.

Practices went well, with Bodhi running in the top five in the timed sessions. Weather prevented qualifying from running as scheduled on the Friday, putting Bodhi fifth on the grid for Saturday and Sunday’s races, based on Thursday’s practice times.

Although it wasn’t necessary for qualifying purposes, Bodhi chose to go out in Friday morning’s wet session in order to gain some experience on his Meidl Honda CBR600RR on full rain tires in the wet conditions. “It was fun to gain that experience and to see how much great traction the full rain tires really provide, especially with no pressure, since it wasn’t a race or qualifying situation,” said Edie.

Saturday’s first race of the doubleheader weekend was run in sunny and warm conditions. Bodhi was able to battle within the top five, running much of the race in fourth and fifth positions. With three laps to go, he lost the front in corner five and went down. He was unhurt, but was unfortunately unable to rejoin the race.

Damage to his bike was mostly cosmetic, and with the generous help of others in the pits and the loan of some spare parts, Bodhi and his bike were fit and ready to race on Sunday. Race two was exciting, and Bodhi had the podium in sight, running in third and fourth for most of the race, with Nickerson ahead of him in second but having been assessed a jump start penalty, and Archambault in first. With four laps to go, Jody Greening and Phillip Masse joined the battle at the front, and it was great racing for third through sixth places.

Unfortunately, with one lap to go, Bodhi was involved in an incident with another rider in corner five, in which he was hit from behind. Bodhi went down, but managed to pick up his bike and rejoin the race, finishing in 11th place.

We are looking forward to the final doubleheader round of the season at Shubenacadie, NS’s Atlantic Motorsport Park Aug 5-8th. Bodhi will go to AMP sixth in points in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship Amateur Sport Bike class. Bodhi is competing in two regional series this year as well, and is the current points leader in the CMRA Middleweight Amateur class and in the EMRA Intermediate 600 Supersport class.
