Beautiful weather for racing reigned at Mirabel, QB’s Circuit ICAR as 14 year old Bodhi Edie (Warman, SK) ran his debut Amateur Sport Bike race at round one of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship on May 30th, aboard his Edie Racing/Meidl Honda Powerhouse CBR600RR.

Edie was pleased with his sixth place finish, overcoming some early weekend challenges and a 12th row qualifying position in a great race battle. Initial practice sessions on Thursday and Friday morning saw Edie battling with the front runners in the class on the timesheets, but a crash Friday morning late in the practice session resulted in a missed practice Friday afternoon. Although Bodhi was unhurt, his bike required some repair, and Saturday’s practice and qualifying sessions were used to overcome suspension set-up issues.

“The ICAR track is fun, but tough to ride, and it was a whole new experience on my CBR600 compared to my CBR125 last year,” said Edie. For Sunday morning’s final practice prior to the race, the team chose to go with a set-up they were more familiar with from regional racing in western Canada, which proved to be the best option. In Sunday afternoon’s race, Bodhi knew his job was to get a good start from his fourth row grid position, and run a smart race to finish as strong as he could and come out with as many points as possible.

“I didn’t get the best start, and corner one and two at ICAR on the first lap aren’t where you want to push to make up positions, but once I settled in to the race, I was able to pass some riders and had a great battle with Nickerson and Bailey for sixth place,” said Edie.

Bodhi is happy to come out west to Calgary for round two with a solid top ten finish in round one. The top finisher in Amateur Sport Bike from outside of QB, Bodhi is looking forward to the Calgary double header round at Race City, where he’s already been on the podium at regional races this spring.
